Biden uses Greene to argue ‘Bidenomics’ case

Article Summary –

President Joe Biden highlighted the benefits of his Inflation Reduction Act during a speech in West Columbia, South Carolina, emphasizing that no Republicans in Congress had voted for the landmark climate law. The Act includes provisions for green tax credits for companies developing renewable energy infrastructure, and has led to $500 billion in manufacturing and clean-energy investments since its enactment in the previous year. Biden pointed out that over 60 domestic manufacturing announcements have been made across the solar supply chain since he took office, and highlighted an upcoming $2.5 billion solar manufacturing facility in the district of Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had voted against the Act.

President Biden Highlights Republican Opposition to Landmark Climate Law

On Thursday, President Joe Biden brought attention to the fact that every Republican in Congress, including the controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), voted against his transformative climate law. This law is currently accelerating a surge in manufacturing and clean-energy projects nationwide.

Job Growth through the Inflation Reduction Act

“I’ve overseen over 60 domestic manufacturing launches across the solar supply chain since taking office,” stated Biden during a speech in West Columbia, S.C. His Inflation Reduction Act, opposed by all Republicans, includes significant green tax credits for companies developing electric vehicles, charging stations, solar and wind facilities, EV batteries, and other renewable energy infrastructure.

Significant Investments in Manufacturing and Clean Energy

Since Biden signed the Act into law last August, private companies have pledged $500 billion in manufacturing and clean-energy investments, as reported by the White House. Despite the lack of support from Republicans, Biden assured, “we still got it done. And it’s going to revolutionise America.”

Green Energy Success in Republican Districts

Interestingly, Greene’s northern Georgia district will soon host a $2.5 billion solar manufacturing facility by South Korea’s Hanwha Qcells. Touted as the largest solar project in U.S. history, it is projected to create 2,500 jobs. Similarly, a $60 million solar investment from Enphase Energy, expected to generate 600 jobs, will be located in the Republican-dominated South Carolina. Biden asserted, “Jobs that would have gone to Mexico, India, Romania, and China are now returning to South Carolina.”

Republican Efforts to Repeal the Inflation Reduction Act

Despite House Republicans’ attempts to nullify the Inflation Reduction Act, clean-energy projects have generated over 142,000 new jobs across 31 states since the Act’s inception, according to Climate Power. Over half of these projects are in districts represented by House Republicans. Biden concluded, “Wherever the need is most, that’s where we should be helping.”
