Fiery Crash in Southeastern Pennsylvania during Police Chase

A fiery car crash in southeastern Pennsylvania resulted in four fatalities, including a pregnant teenager. The Pennsylvania State Police had pursued the car, a red Ford Taurus, in connection with recent retail thefts, according to an official statement.

The chase took place over seven miles on Route 322 when the car sped off after being pulled over by the police. The driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a concrete bridge embankment and caught fire. Despite state troopers’ attempts to rescue the passengers, Isaiah Miller, Ikeam Rogers, and Kalyn Billups died at the crash scene, while the pregnant teenager, Tyjana Motley, later succumbed at a hospital.

Attempted Rescue and Investigation

Despite performing an emergency C-section, medical personnel were unable to save Motley’s child. The other three occupants of the car survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The car had been observed in the Shoppes at Brinton Lake, a mall in Concord Township, Delaware County, due to recent retail theft incidents. An individual in the vehicle was thought to be involved in previous thefts at the shopping center.

The pursuit began when people previously exiting the car re-entered it and drove off as a state trooper approached. The vehicle was later stopped due to a tinted front windshield, expired inspection stickers, and obscured Delaware temporary paper registration. However, the Taurus then sped off, leading to the deadly crash. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Statewide Pursuit Incidents

The Pennsylvania State Police compiles an annual report on police pursuits statewide. In its 2022 report, a total of 2,718 pursuits were noted, with nine resulting in fatal “pursuit-related crashes”.
