Ethics board advises disbarment for Rudy Giuliani in D.C.

Article Summary –

The D.C. Bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility has recommended that Rudy Giuliani be barred from practicing law in Washington D.C. This recommendation was based on Giuliani’s actions following the 2020 presidential election, where he sought to overturn Pennsylvania’s election results in favor of his client, Donald Trump. A spokesperson for Giuliani blamed partisan Democrats for the findings, while the outcome of the case will be decided by the D.C. Court of Appeals.

DC Bar Board Recommends Giuliani Disbarment

Rudy Giuliani may face disbarment in Washington D.C. as recommended by the D.C. Bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility. The proposal on Friday was based on Giuliani’s activities in Pennsylvania after the 2020 presidential elections, during which he attempted to invalidate the state’s results to favor his ex-client, Donald Trump.

The board concurred with the Disciplinary Counsel that Giuliani violated the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct. Their report echoes a previous one from 2020, whereby a disciplinary board of the D.C. Bar recommended a similar sanction.

The case now proceeds to the D.C. Court of Appeals to determine whether Giuliani, New York City’s former mayor, will be officially disbarred. Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, blames the report’s findings on “partisan Democrats”, implying the potential disbarment is an attempt to discourage lawyers from representing Trump.

Goodman urged D.C. Bar Association members to speak out against this “irresponsible and anti-American recommendation”. Giuliani lost his New York law license previously due to “demonstrably false and misleading statements” following the 2020 presidential elections.

Another Trump lawyer, Jenna Ellis, is prohibited from practicing law in Colorado for three years following her services for Trump post-election.
