Updated 4:36 PM CDT May 6, 2024

This Monday afternoon the Omaha area is expected to face severe weather conditions, including large hail and strong winds. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued with the forecast suggesting the worst conditions to emerge in the late evening. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities where possible. The entire Channel 7 viewing area is under a Tornado watch until 11 PM this evening.

According to our computer model predictions, the severe storms are likely to approach the western part of our viewing area by 5 PM. The metro region might experience stronger storms around 7:30 PM. If the storms follow the predicted timing, they will move through the metro and into most of western Iowa by 10 PM, and then expected to move out of our Channel 7 viewing area by 11 PM.

The weather today has been warm with a high of 75 degrees, which is above the average state temperature of 71.52 degrees. There has not been any rain yet, but it is forecasted for later this evening. The recent rains have helped, but there is still a high tree pollen count, so allergy sufferers should take precautions. The southeast winds are expected to get stronger, gusting to nearly 40 miles per hour.

Central and eastern Nebraska are expected to face storms as well. The storm line extends all the way down to Oklahoma with the movement towards the northeast. As such, this activity, along a cold front, dry line combination, is forecasted to move out of our viewing area by 11 PM.

Tomorrow is predicted to have a fair amount of sun, with maybe a spotty shower or two, but the rest of the week should be fairly quiet. Severe storms are expected this evening, then partly cloudy late-night with a low temperature of 49 degrees. The rest of the week should have a slight shower chance, with Friday and Saturday expected to have decent weather. The weekend looks really good with Mother’s Day predicted to be beautiful and warming up to around 80 for the high temperature on Monday of next week.
