A Michigan Man Joins Digital Court Hearing While Driving

A Michigan man with a suspended driver’s license, attended his court hearing via a Zoom call from his vehicle. Corey Harris, the man in question, did not make a physical court appearance, but rather dialed into the hearing while he was on the move. The video of the hearing was posted on the YouTube page of Washtenaw County Judge Cedric Simpson.

Simpson questioned Harris if he was driving at the time of joining the hearing. Harris replied that he was parking at his doctor’s office and would be ready to participate in the hearing shortly. After a pause and confirmation that Harris was stationary, his attorney Natalie Pate requested for an adjournment of two to four weeks.

Upon reviewing the case, a surprised Simpson confirmed that the case was regarding Harris driving while his license was suspended. After clarifying with Pate that Harris was indeed driving without a license, Simpson expressed his disbelief at Harris’s actions.

Simpson subsequently revoked Harris’s bond and instructed him to surrender to the Washtenaw County Jail by the end of the day. Harris, still on the Zoom call from his car, reacted with dismay. It remains unclear whether Harris complied with the judge’s instructions.
