“Biden Law Funds Highlighted at Trump’s Airport Rally”

Article Summary –

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign announced a rally to be held at MBS International Airport in Freeland, Michigan. The airport received a federal grant worth over $5.6 million for upgrades in July 2023, funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed by President Joe Biden in 2021. Despite Trump’s unfulfilled promises of infrastructural upgrades during his campaign, Michigan has been identified as a key swing state in presidential elections, with Trump criticizing Biden’s infrastructure plan and Biden countering Trump’s lack of infrastructural accomplishments during his term.

Trump To Hold Rally at Michigan’s MBS International Airport

The former U.S. President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign announced a rally to be held on May 1, at MBS International Airport, located in Saginaw County.

Trump, during his 2016 presidential campaign, pledged to enact infrastructure legislation for upgrades at such locations but failed to deliver.

The airport received over $5.6 million in July 2023 from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed by President Joe Biden in 2021. The act also funded a $5.8 million upgrade to Bishop International Airport in Flint.

The infrastructure law has announced over $212 million in grants for Michigan airports and $15 billion for US airport infrastructure.

James Canders, MBS airport director, praised the funds for enhancing airport infrastructure and passenger experience. The grant will facilitate the rehabilitation of the runway and installation of a runway visual guidance system at MBS International.

Biden landed at MBS International in March for a campaign event and criticized Trump’s failure to pass infrastructure legislation during his term (2017-2021).

In a 2023 speech, Biden highlighted this lack of infrastructure development under Trump’s administration.

Trump, meanwhile, criticized the infrastructure law at a 2021 event and expressed his dislike for the Republicans who voted for it according to the Washington Post.

Both presidents have focused on Michigan, a key swing state. Trump, surprisingly, won the election in traditionally Democratic Saginaw County in 2016.

In 2020, Biden narrowly defeated Trump in Saginaw County and secured Michigan’s electoral votes. Trump’s false claim about winning the 2020 election has led to his prosecution in federal court and Georgia.

Trump supporters who tried to submit a fraudulent elector slate face prosecution in Michigan.
