Major Highway Upgrade Set to Transform Route to Puerto Peñasco
In a bid to enhance travel experiences for tourists heading to the coastal haven of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico is channeling over $100 million into upgrading the highway that links Arizona to this renowned beach destination.
This significant infrastructure project focuses on modernizing the section of Highway 8 that stretches from the Lukeville-Sonoyta border crossing down to Puerto Peñasco, a route heavily frequented by vacationers from Arizona.
The construction of this approximately 55-mile highway commenced with a groundbreaking event in Puerto Peñasco on Thursday, marking the start of a new era for the region.
“Today is a historic day for Puerto Peñasco,” declared Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo during the ceremony, underscoring the importance of this development for the area.
In addition to the highway improvements, the investment plan includes enhancements to the border crossing entrance in Sonoyta, where the road into Mexico begins, as noted by the city of Puerto Peñasco.
